Bursary

16-19 Bursary Fund

At West Somerset College, we are committed to ensuring all sixth form students have access to high quality provision. The 16-19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to help students overcome financial barriers to participation in education, such as the costs of transport, offsite educational activities, equipment, or other course related costs. The fund is allocated to post-16 providers by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).

Eligibility

Eligibility is based on the student meeting residency requirements and being on a means-tested or disability benefit. You can read our full Bursary Policy at the bottom of this page.

Conditions

Before applying for the 16-19 Bursary Fund, parents/carers and students should read the following conditions which apply to Bursary payments at West Somerset College. You will be asked to confirm that you have read and agree to these conditions upon completion of your application.

Bursary Payments

Payments for Bursaries will be authorised where:

  • A student’s attendance and is 95% or above, and there are no persistent punctuality issues;
  • Students regularly complete work set in school and homework to an acceptable standard;
  • Students do not regularly work more than 24 hours paid employment per week in term time;
  • Students meet the expectations set out in the Sixth Form Behaviour policy.

Important Note

West Somerset College reserves the right to cease bursaries if the above conditions are not met.
