My name is Kate Watkins and I am the careers adviser for the West Somerset College. My role involves supporting all our students to raise their aspirations and explore their options both for post 16, post 18 and beyond! The work I am involved with includes:

• I meet with all year 11 and 13 students at least once, offering a 1-1 careers appointment
• I meet with pupils from other year groups who are referred to me by parents, teachers or themselves
• I offer support with exploring options, generating career ideas, reflecting on skills and building self-understanding, applying for jobs, apprenticeships and further courses including college and university
• I work with our careers lead, Mary Cranna, to design and deliver our annual careers programme incorporating a wide range of activities to develop our students career learning
• I build relationships with employers and other organisations to gain their support and involvement with our students
• I support parents with questions and queries regarding supporting their child with their future options
• Disseminating career information to staff, parents and students via email, messenger, social media
