Careers in the Classroom

We believe that careers education is not something that should be taught in isolation, but informed by what is learnt in the academic curriculum too. For instance, we have a range of speakers who come in to talk to students throughout the year; we hold a mock interview day, where managers from local businesses interview our students and give them feedback; and we run departmental trips and visits to experience the 'behind the scenes' of businesses, most recently: Singer Instruments, Longleat, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and Cadbury World.

In developing and delivering our STEM programmes and Talent Academies, we have worked with EDF Energy, Hinkley Point, Butlins, Styles, the Construction Skills and Innovation Centre and Exeter University, amongst others.

Students are encouraged to get involved in careers related competitions at all levels, from the local to the international. Recently, we have had students take part in the GCHQ language competition for a job with the UK's Intelligence, Security and Cyber Agency, as well as the Business department putting forth students for the 'student investor' nationwide challenge.
