SEN

At West Somerset College we are committed to providing an inclusive education, adopting a whole school approach to meeting the needs of all our students. We believe that all students have the right to equal access to learning, and work collaboratively with parents/carers, students, staff and governors to ensure that those with Special Educational Needs and Disability are nurtured and supported to achieve their full potential.

Our dedicated team of Higher Level Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants are led by our SENDCO, Cat Hargreaves, and work closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver targeted intervention and support tailored to individual needs. Every student on our SEN register will have a personalised Student Passport detailing their needs, provision and suggested teaching strategies, which are reviewed regularly in partnership with parents/carers, teaching staff and with advice sought from outside agencies where appropriate. We are proud of the strong working relationship we have with our middle school partners and operate a robust enhanced transition programme designed to support those with additional needs, incorporating planning meetings with key staff and additional ‘Move Up’ visits for those who need them to ensure the best possible transition to the College.
