What’s it all about?

This qualification is suitable for 14-19 year olds, or for individuals of any age wanting an introduction to the variety of construction trades, to gain skills in those areas and perhaps to decide which trade is the right one to pursue a career in. No previous knowledge or experience is required.

 

For a Level 1 Vocational Study Programme ideally students will need GCSE English and Mathematics at grade 3 or above plus a range of GCSEs at 4/3 grades. You are able to retake GCSE English Language, and Maths and upon completion of your Study Programme can look to progress onto a Level 3 Study Programme.

 

What will I learn on this course?

The course is an introduction to the trade specific pathways in the construction industry, in this case bricklaying. You will learn the basic principles and techniques needed to operate in this discipline and gain practical skills by means of practical based assessments covering some of the units listed below:

 

  • Introduction to health and safety in construction
  • Constructing half brick walling
  • Introduction to the construction industry
  • Constructing block walling
  • Constructing half brick return corners
  • Constructing cavity walls in brickwork and block work
  • Constructing one brick walling

 

What could this qualification lead to?

This qualification gives an introduction into the bricklaying operations and principles and would be an ideal foundation to lead into a level 2 course or suitable apprenticeship.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by a range of practical and written assignments.
